Sara informed me that May is Eat Local Month, bringing awareness to sustainable living. The article Fossil Fuel for Breakfast goes into just how many resources can be used to get non-local food on your table. In May, try and hit your local Farmer's Market to get your veggies, fruits, nuts, herbs, and such for the month. There are a lot of Farmer's Markets that run year round which keep you in touch with eating what is in season. Hit up a local bakery for your breads this month (this is the one I'm most excited about trying). Also read more labels, this goes for animal products especially. Reading labels will help you become aware of where your food is coming from. Try and buy food made in your state.
